Recipe for Karahi Chicken


1 kg chicken, cut into small pieces
3 tbsp oil
1 onion, chopped
3 tomatoes, chopped
1 tsp ginger paste
1 tsp garlic paste
2 green chilies, chopped
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp red chili powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp garam masala powder
Salt to taste
Fresh coriander leaves for garnish


Heat oil in a karahi or pan.
Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
Add onion and sauté till golden brown.
Add ginger and garlic paste, green chilies, and sauté for a minute.
Add tomatoes and cook till they are soft and mushy.
Add red chili powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, and salt. Mix well.
Add chicken and mix well. Cook on high heat for 5-7 minutes.
Cover the karahi with a lid and let it cook on low heat for another 10-15 minutes.
Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
Serve with naan or rice.

Karahi Chicken with Cream

Add 2 tbsp of fresh cream to the karahi before garnishing with coriander.
Mix well and serve.

Karahi Chicken with Bell Peppers

Add sliced bell peppers (1 each of red, green, and yellow) along with chicken in step 6.
Mix well and cook for another 5 minutes.
Continue with the rest of the recipe.

Add 2 tbsp of yogurt to the karahi before adding chicken in step 6.
Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
Add chicken and continue with the rest of the recipe.
