Indian Butter Chicken Recipe
1 lb boneless chicken, cut into bite-sized pieces
1 cup plain yogurt
1 tablespoon ginger paste
1 tablespoon garlic paste
1 teaspoon cumin powder
1 teaspoon coriander powder
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 cup tomato puree
1 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon garam masala
Salt, to taste
Cilantro, chopped, for garnish
In a large bowl, mix together the chicken, yogurt, ginger paste, garlic paste, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and red chili powder. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight.
In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook until browned on all sides. Remove the chicken from the pan and set aside.
In the same saucepan, add the tomato puree and cook for 5 minutes. Add the heavy cream and garam masala and cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
Return the chicken to the saucepan and stir to coat with the sauce. Simmer for an additional 10 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the sauce has thickened. Season with salt to taste.
Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve with naan or basmati rice.
